Just the stats: 87 miles, 15.1 MPH average, rolling hills. Climbed 6,004 feet, descended 6,295. Cumulative 1,893 miles. No flats today, eight in total. Sunshine, 64 to 76.
A great day today - high temperatures in the mid-70's, clear sky, amazing scenery.
We had a nice treat this morning. The Ladies of Maysville, Missouri (pop. 1,520) gave us an amazing welcome. Each year they host a special sag stop in front of the Dekalb County Historical Society. The riders all met as a group and rode into town together. About 30 townspeople greeted us with coffee, lemonade, cinnamon rolls, bananas, and other goodies. They had also made us peanut-butter and jelly (homemade of course) sandwiches to take with us. Apparently our arrival in town each year is quite a local event.
Here I am standing next to Tom, the local barber. We visited with these nice towns folk for about an hour.
After this treat, we continued on through rolling countryside. Most of the hills were only of moderate length and steepness, but we did register 16% grade on two of them. For those of you who do not ride, that's steep! We passed a marker with an interesting inscription on it.
So, today was a 10. Slower paced. Missouri is beautiful.
Tomorrow we will be treated to more "rollers" -- we were told 146 rollers to be exact. You zoom down one hill and roll up to the top of the next. A ribbon of hills await us, ya hoo I can't wait.
