Just the stats: 83 miles, 16.9 MPH average, flat land. Cumulative 2,454 miles. No flats today, eight in total. Sunny, 68 to 87 degrees, 43 % humidity - beautiful day . Similar scenery to yesterday...farmland, corn, and woodland.
Today was a great riding day - as good as it gets. Smooth roads, easy ride over rolling terrain. This was the first day in over a week that we didn't have headwinds. Yes, I know headwinds hadn't been mentioned for a few days - we all were so tired of them we didn't even want to talk about them. Anyway, all of the riders are much more relaxed and just happy today.
We had some traffic to negotiate as we left Indianapolis, though it was a Saturday so it could have been worse! More fields of corn and soybeans were along our route, with low to slightly rolling hills and lots of tree lined roads. We rode through a number of neat old little towns. Our SAG stop was enhanced with fresh bakery items donated by one of our riders who lives in Indianapolis. About 15 members of that city's riding club rode with our group out to the SAG stop.
I rode in a pace line for the first 26 miles and then dropped off to enjoy the scenery and ride with my friend Terry - he's from Canada. Next summer he is planning on riding a bike route across Europe that follows the Orient Express route - hmmmmm.
Terry and I stopped for lunch in Hagerstown at a Subway for lunch. I try to eat at Subway every day - the food is good and healthy. The only picture I took is of Terry riding his bike he calls Surly. It's very smooth riding and handles great, a nice bike. Terry is a very strong rider.
We arrived at our hotel before 1:15 pm, so we're all having a nice relaxing afternoon.
Here is my Garmin data: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/3035598
Tomorrow is a 103 mile day - we cross into Ohio.

HMMMMMM - Let's see - how many shopping days will that be for me?
Hi Tom:
I am sitting out on my deck reading the latest on your Blog and I just finished listening to the old hymn "In the Garden" and I bet you must feel at different times on the road that you have reached the "Garden", God's Heaven.
I admire you for your perseverence and insight into our beautiful country. We are so lucky to live in the U.S.
The Honduras Mission Team left this morning to help the needy in La Cebita. Richard Bontz, Stephanie Dittman and I helped drive the team to Reagan National this morning.
God is good and we have some of the most loving people in Liberty Grove. You would have been proud of Phil, Andrew, Anne, Carole, George, Janet, Russ, Shirley, Bob, Sue and the others I cannot remember right now who were so excited today to go on this mission trip to serve God. God is so good Tom.
I look forward to talking to you one on one when you return about the Glory of God you experience during your moments along our nations highways. Be safe and God Bless.
Russ
Tom,
It's a beautiful, quiet Sunday morning here, Father's Day and my Emily's 18th birthday to boot!
I too, have been thinking lately about my earthly father who left here 4 1/2 years ago...I can remember his voice, a soothing memory or I can turn on a golf match and remember him as well! : )
I remember traveling crosscountry (by car, lazy me!) post-college and thinking how wonderful and diverse this big beautiful country is from west to midwest to east and so young to have so much. It's such a blessing that you can do this at this moment in your life - and that you appreciate it so much.
I pray for you a vision from God about your bicycle mission, good physical and bicycle health, and your body as a vessel for God as transparent as the wind whispering through your hair as you ride.
Godspeed, my brother.
In Christ,
M'Liss
Happy Father's Day Dad! Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you today. I am truly blessed to have you as a father.
Check your email, I sent you something. If you got it more than once, sorry, I was having some technical difficulties!
I miss you, keep it up, I know you can do it and can't wait to see you soon!
