Just the stats: 18 miles, parade speed!! Cumulative 3,444 miles. No flats today, nine in total. Sunny and warm, 71 to 78 degrees.
We're done! It was fun and exciting to ride into Boston. The morning started off with the usual routine (wake up at 5:30, breakfast at 6:00, sign out at the truck at 7:00). This time, though, we didn't have to load our bags because we came back to the same hotel.
We rode the first 13 miles following our route sheet through surrounding towns, and then "re-grouped" at a designated location for the final 6 mile parade to the beach.
What a sight! Thirty four riders cycling along in pairs, with the orange safety flags waving. Past heritage homes in stately neighborhoods and up and down windy streets to the beach. Many passers by stopped to watch our little parade, and there were many family members at the beach cheering us as we arrived.
At the beach we took off our shoes and carried our bikes to the Atlantic Ocean for pictures and ceremonial wheel drip to signify the end of our journey. There were many hugs and high fives at water's edge, followed by an extensive photo opportunity. Then we all got in the vans and were driven back to the hotel
I then got busy, packed up my bike and was out of the hotel at 12:30 and onto the airport for my 3 pm flight. Homeward bound and onto another adventure - tomorrow!!
What a great adventure it has been! 3,444 miles by bicycle!
