Day 11 - Rehoboth Beach,DE to Pocomoke City, MD 66.5 miles

Just the stats: 66.5 miles, 18.2 MPH average. Started riding at 8:45 am, finished at 12:45 pm - 3 hours 47 minutes riding time. Sunny, warm with heavy rain, 68 to 72 degrees, 100% humidity. Calories burned on the ride - 4,720.

We had a rest stop or SAG stop at 34 miles. Its just a light snack as you can see if you enlarge the picture. I don't spend much more than 7 to 9 minutes at these SAG stops.

In this last picture, we have finished our ride, you may not be able to see it, but we are soaked!

Today was a short 66 mile day so we started an hour later at 8:45 am. The wind when we had it was favorable. It was cloudy all day. The rain started around 11:45 am and was very heavy by noon on. I cleaned my bike yesterday, after arriving soaked, I cleaned it again. The rain wasn't too big of a distraction because it was 70* to 72* as we rode.

We rode down the coastal highway from Rehoboth on through Ocean City - a 28 mile ride. Then we turned west for six miles onto Route 50 before turning south on back roads. Gordon and I got off to a quick start, we rode with a four man pace line until around mile 40 and when the rains came, we picked up our own pace, leaving the group behind.

Tonight we are in Pocomoke City, about 12 miles west of Chincoteague Island in Worcester County, MD. This is a farming area with plenty of chicken farms also.

Tomorrow we ride 76 miles to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. We will load bikes onto vans and get a 50 minute car ride to Virginia Beach, VA.

Sounds like a pretty nice ride. I like riding in the rain when the temperatures are in the low 70's. You are really going after it. Averaging almost 18.5 mph is hard. Top that off with only 7-9 minutes in the SAG you must be in a real hurray to get down to the motel. Do you have the first room assignments? Or do you have to wait on rooms? Maybe it is better now that it is Sept. Have fun!!

Hi Dad! Glad you made it through the rain, it poured here yesterday so I can imagine that was tough riding through! Nice MD Terrapins socks!

Nice pictures of your family. Your daughter has your smile.

I believe that I saw Mack from Ireland in one of your pictures. Glad to see that he has recovered from his health scare on our XC and is back. Say hello to him from Bob - his favorite farmer. Mack taught me how to use energy gels.
