As soon as I finish riding every day, I eat - usually at Subway but today I ate at Quiznos. It is important to eat protein and carbs within 30 minutes of ending a ride.
We have ridden 1,317 miles and have about 300 more miles to go in five more riding days. The worst of the hard riding in now behind us.
Today's 82 miles were difficult. The miles in the three previous days have taken a toll on my stamina. It was hard both mentally and physically just to keep spinning - especially around mile 65. I didn't hit the wall today like I may have in a marathon, I was just tired. When I had 9 miles left I was able to perk up and pick up my speed to finish with a respectable pace.
We are in Beaufort, SC, the home of Paris Island and the Marine Corps Air Station. This is a beautiful southern town with antebellum homes, especially in Old Town Beaufort. After arriving into town, I rode around Beaufort and took pictures.
I had an "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" moment this afternoon. Along the riverside the Beaufort Baptist Church was baptizing new believers. It was fun to watch and be part of this special time for these families.
Tomorrow we are off to Savannah, GA, a short 47 mile ride, and then a rest day in Savannah after that.
I hope you enjoy these pictures of this neat old southern town. -- Tom

Hi Tom, I rode with Bob W on XC08. I've been occasionally checking in to see how it's going. Congratulations on making it through those last three days. About 300 miles in 3 days. Perserverence baby. Hang in there, and smell some flowers, you will be home soon wishing you were on the road. Say hi to Clark, Tracy and Jim Hall from Ron W.
I'm sending you out wishes for being safe with tail winds. RW
What I'm most amazed by is how low your heart rate is! I rode a short 17-miler this weekend and mine was 144 -- even though it was a hilly route with wind, that's incredibly high compared with your 114. Heck, I hit 114 getting on the bike!
