St Malo, France

 Hello Everybody,

 I am ready to ride!

Traveling from home to our starting point, St Malo, France on the English Channel made for a long day (and sleepless night!) but all went well.  I departed from Dullas at 5:30 pm and arrived in Paris at 7:15 am.  France is six hours ahead of home so the flight was about 8 hours.  I got through customs just fine and found the train station.

I did ask people for directions to the train station.  Everyone was as helpful as they could considering I don't speak French. I quickly figured out the younger adults (20 to 30 year olds) are more likely to speak English and the older people don't - makes sense.

The train ride was fine, four and a half hours later I was in St Malo. I fell asleep near the end of the ride, but luckily the guy sitting next to me woke me up as we were coming into the St Malo train station. I could see the Lords hand in a lot of the decisions and encounters I had today. All those prayers help, I felt them.

Bob would be proud of me - I walked about half an hour to my hotel. That was tough carrying two heavy bags and a backpack. I stopped a couple of times during my walk, those suckers were heavy!  I probably have over ten pounds of Hammer Nutrition products to fuel my ride in those bags as well as my bike seat, pedals, riding shoes, aero bars, parts bag that attaches under my seat and another small bag that attaches to my handle bar.  I try to travel light but I do need to be prepared for rain and cold weather also.

I was able to talk to Jen using Facetime on my iPhone, pretty neat (and free when I use the hotels internet!). For some reason, I couldn't get through to Todd or Allie.  So, I had dinner, walked around and went to bed at 10 pm - 4 pm at home. I was ready to sleep after being awake for 29 hours straight.

Today I laid low, got organized, went to the beach and walked around.  It is sunny and a little chilly at 68 degrees. So far I am the only rider here.  We have orientation tomorrow and then start riding 73 miles to St Dider on Sunday.

What a sunset

That is it for now.
